Oil Control Face Mask Review | Bulldog

Wait, isn’t Bulldog a company that makes skincare products for men? Yes. This is true. However, I’ve read so many positive Bulldog face mask reviews that I had to try it for myself. Lately I’ve been experiencing oily skin, more so than usual, and I really wanted to see if this beloved face mask could help me out. Was this oil control face mask worth it? Check out my review below!

What is Bulldog Face Mask?

First off, yes, Bulldog creates men’s skincare products. But that doesn’t mean us women can’t try it out… This particular product is their Oil Control Face Mask. Realistically it can be used on all skin types, but it’s aim is to reduce excess oil on the skin so it’s perfect for oily skin.

What’s really great about most Bulldog products is that they are incredibly affordable. I bought this face mask on Amazon and it was only £4.40 for 100ml! How wonderful! The downside is that Bulldog Skincare is a UK company, so you may have trouble finding these products in other countries (or at least, finding them cheaply).

Bulldog also sells things like moisturisers and face scrubs in their skin care line, as well as products for shaving and body care like shower soaps. You could actually buy this Oil Control Face Mask and Oil Control Moisturiser together in one pack. Because this face mask is designed to pull oil from your face, it’s really important to finish with some kind of moisturiser so you skin isn’t dehydrated.

Since I love Bulldog so much, I recently reviewed Bulldog’s Energising Eye Roll On – Make sure to check it out!

What’s Bulldog Oil Control Face Mask like?

Usually I love a face mask that I can peel off, like the 7th Heaven charcoal face masks that I love to do every Sunday. There’s something incredibly soothing and fun about peeling off a face mask. So naturally, I don’t have a lot of experience with a wash-off mask like Bulldog’s Oil Control face mask.

The tube itself is very minimal and basic – nothing too fancy, but that’s how they can keep the price down. The tube I bought was 100ml which is plenty for numerous face mask sessions, especially if you only use this 1-2 times a week. It comes out a beige-type colour and is super smooth.

What’s in it?

Bulldog face mask ingredients include: Aqua, Kaolin, Glycerin, Decyl glucoside, Montmorillonite, Phenoxyethanol, Xanthan gum, Hamamelis virginiana (Witch hazel) water, Chlorphenesin, Parfum (Fragrance), Disodium EDTA, Alcohol, Sodium dehydroacetate, Salix alba (Willow) bark extract, Limonene, Juniperus communis fruit extract, Potassium sorbate, Sodium benzoate, Citric acid, Sodium hydroxide.

Extra bits to know:

  • Witch Hazel, Willow Bark and Juniper are the main ingredients
  • Includes three natural clays such as Kaolin clay, Cornish clay and Volcanus clay

It’s been researched that these natural ingredients can help reduce oil while still being gentle on the skin.

What does Bulldog’s face mask feel like?

Sometimes my face can be a bit sensitive, so I was worried that this might make me break out or extremely dry out my skin. Thankfully, neither happened!

I first wash my face, just with warm water. I make sure I don’t have any remaining makeup on my skin. Then I apply a fairly thick amount to my face. The texture is creamy and is really easy to apply. It’s thin, but not thin enough that it will easily drip off your face.

Giving my eyes a wide berth, I slather a good amount all over my face, until it’s evenly applied. The directions are to leave it for about 5-10 minutes before rinsing with warm water. Technically, I forgot about the time and ended up leaving it a bit longer, but it didn’t irritate my skin.

The smell is pleasant, sort of like an eucalyptus smell. Whatever it is, it smells fresh and clean.

Once it’s fully dry, the mask is hard and tight. It really feels like it’s doing it’s deep cleanse on your skin. Finally, like the directions instruct, I washed it off with warm water. It was a bit messy because there is so much of the mask on your face, but it’s done easily enough.

Right away my skin felt clean, smooth and soft. The amount of excess oil on my face was drastically reduced. I was amazed! How could just one use make such a difference?

Afterwards, my face did feel a bit tight (as you can imagine) so it’s important to finish with some type of moisturizer that’s light and oil-free. My go-to moirusrizer has been the Rich Moist Soothing Cream from Klairs. Then that’s it!

Although the instructions say to only leave this on for 5-10 minutes, I actually prefer to leave it on closer to 20 minutes. However, I would suggest trying just 10 minutes the first time you use it, to make sure your skin is OK. If it’s not irritated, you could try keeping it on longer the following time.

Final verdict on Bulldog’s Face Mask

Overall, I’m in love with Bulldog’s face mask. It has all the elements that are important to me for skin care products:

  • Affordable and accessible
  • Drastically reduces excess oil on the skin
  • Makes your skin feel smooth and soft
  • Didn’t irritate my skin (which can be sensitive sometimes)
  • Super easy to use

Even though this face wash is considered a men’s product, I’m totally in love with it. Currently, it’s my new Sunday afternoon self-care product and I couldn’t be happier!
