Wake Skincare Eye Gel Review | Wake

This week I went back to focusing on my eyes (or rather, my giant eye bags) and tried a new product: Wake Skincare Eye Gel! Was it worth it, or waste of money? Check out my review below!

What is Wake Eye Gel?

It’s OK if you’ve never heard of Wake, or their Wake skin care gel. I didn’t know about it, either! I was actually searching for a new eye cream – something like The Ordinary Caffeine Solution or Superdrug’s Vitamin E eye cream. And voila! Amazon told me about Wake.

Wake is a clear gel that is applied around the eye area. They claim it will instantly brighten the area around the eye, while also providing anti-aging benefits by reducing fine lines and wrinkles. It will also improve the look of dark circles or eye bags after continued use.

If that’s true, count me in!

Other than Asian Flush (which I use Sunset Alcohol Flush Support for), dark under-eyes is my next biggest issue. I’ve tried so many concealers that I often lose count! I’ve recently started trying to fix the issue at the root rather than cover it up. I’ve been somewhat happy with The Ordinary Caffeine Solution although I haven’t been seeing massive results (is that even possible?) When searching online I found Wake Skincare. The brand only does one product: Wake eye gel. They’re just a small start-up but it seems like they’ve found a real following.

Plus I’m a sucker for trying new products!

What’s Wake Skincare like?

The company behind the product is a start-up wanting to provide a product that is simple, with less plastic that comes from an independent source. That’s exactly what you get!

One of the unique aspects of Wake Skincare is they try to stay as minimal as possible. Their box is pretty, but simple. Their bottle is even simpler – just a white pump-style bottle with their name on it. It’s really easy to pump a small amount of product onto your fingertip, and that’s all you need to apply to your face. It’s recommended that you apply some gel to your fingertip, and then rub both tips together before applying the product to under your eyes.

Then you’ll need to wait until the product has completely been absorbed into the skin before applying anything else, like a finishing moisturiser.

You’ll also want to store the bottle in a cool, dry place to get the most of the product.

What’s in it?

Wake skincare eye gel ingredients include: Aqua, Glycerin, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice, Sodium Carbomer, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Leaf Extract, Rose Centifolia Flower Extract, Sambucus Nigra (Elderflower) Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Hydroxide.

You’ll notice that Witch Hazel is used, a really popular ingredient in skincare products lately (just like my favourite Bulldog Oil Control mask). Their website also states that they do not test the Wake skincare product on animals.

What does this eye gel feel like?

As always, it’s super important to do a patch test on your skin before using this product fully. Simply apply a small amount to your hand or arm and wait to see if you have a negative reaction. If it becomes itchy, red or inflamed, you obviously don’t want to use this on your face.

After a successful patch test, I began using this eye gel in my daily routine. It says you can use it either day or night, so I added it into my nightly Korean skincare routine since that was easiest for me,

At first, the gel feels a bit tingly but not too rough or painful. Just enough that you can feel that it’s there. After a few seconds, I don’t feel the gel at all. This seems to be much more gentle than The Ordinary Caffeine solution which can really burn if you’re not careful (or have sensitive skin).

Honestly, the gel is really pleasant, doesn’t have a weird smell and sinks into the skin fairly easily. What more could you ask for in an eye skincare product?

Well, one big thing: does it work?

I’ve been using this for awhile now and I do feel like my eye area has improved. Drastically? No. But my dark eye circles are really dark, so I wasn’t expecting too much. I don’t have a huge issue with fine lines and wrinkles (yet) but I do feel like my eyes look brighter and more awake. Is this some kind of placebo effect? Maybe. But overall I really enjoy this product and will definitely keep using it.

Who knows: maybe after more treatments, I might begin to see more of a change.

Final verdict on Wake Skincare Eye Gel

Overall, I really enjoy Wake for my eyes! Is it a miracle cure for my dark under eyes? No. But I don’t expect anything will be. It’s a lovely product that feels good on my skin and makes me feel like I’m actually working towards better skin. Sometimes the thought is enough to make you feel better.

I also really like supporting a start-up company like Wake rather than a giant skincare company. There’s nothing wrong with buying your favourite MAC lipstick or Maybelline concealer, but it does feel good to help the smaller ones, too.

Will I re-buy this eye gel? I’m not sure just yet, but I will definitely be finishing off the bottle and will check my results again. If I’m still happy that my eye area looks improved, I’ll be getting myself another bottle.
