Instant Age Rewind Concealer Review | Maybelline

This week I returned to one of my favourite products for another try. Although I always stray from this under eye concealer, I always come back! Check out my review of the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind concealer below!

What is Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer?

There’s some confusion around this product because it seems to be called two different names although it’s the same thing.

The product itself says “Instant Anti Age Eraser Concealer” but I think it was originally called Instant Age Rewind Concealer. I’m almost positive my old version was called Age Rewind, so I think they’ve recently re-branded the same product. Or maybe it’s called something different in North American versus the UK.

Anyway!

Whatever you call it, this Maybelline product is specifically under eye concealer. If you know anything about me, you’ll know that my two biggest problems are: Asian Flush (which I use Sunset Alcohol Flush Support) and dark bags under my eyes (which I need a new product for).

This undereye concealer is a bit different because of the application. It comes in a tube that you twist and the product is dispensed on a fluffy end, which you then apply to your face.

What’s Age Rewind Concealer like?

Personally, this has been my go-to concealer for a long time. I mean, years. While I did get bored of it and tried others, I’ve never fully settled on any one product. With Maybelline, though, I always end up coming back.

The makeup itself is creamy and smooth with a nice consistency. I don’t normally have issues with it caking or creasing around my eyes, which is a huge positive. It does come in various colours which is helpful as well.

Simply twist or crank the bottom portion of the concealer tube to release product onto the end. The product will actually be visible on the sponge-end so you can see how much is there. Then you can apply directly to your face, under eyes, corner of eyes, cheeks and wherever you need a bit of coverage. It certainly works well against dark circles and fine lines, leaving you with a refreshed looking eye area. I know some people also like to use this type of concealer on the brow bone and bridge of the nose to give more coverage and a more even colour.

However, if you have extreme dark circles, apply a few layers. Just make sure the layer soaks into the skin before applying another one.

I like the application, although I think you lose a lot of the product in the fluffy end. Rather than squeezing it out of a tube directly onto your face, I think product is absorbed into the application end, which is a bit annoying. Although it’s not the end of the world.

What’s in it?

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind concealer (or Instant Anti Age Eraser) ingredients include: Aqua/Water/Eau, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Isododecane, Glycerin, Peg-9 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Butylene Glycol, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Nylon-12, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Cyclohexasiloxane, Peg-10 Dimethicone, Cetyl Peg/Ppg-10/1 Dimethicone, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Chloride, Polyglyceryl-4 Isostearate, Caprylyl Glycol, Disodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Methylparaben, Lycium Barbarum Fruit Extract, Chlorphenesin, Ethylparaben, Aluminum Hydroxide, Peg-9, N-Hydroxysuccinimide, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide, Chrysin, Palmitoyl Tetr Apeptide-7.

What does this under-eye concealer feel like?

For me, this concealer feels great! It’s creamy without being too heavy. It also doesn’t cake around my eyes. However, you need to make sure that your eye-area is properly moisturised to get the most from these types of products. Otherwise, it just looks bad on the skin.

I don’t usually need to top-up this concealer later in the day, either, so it has some serious staying power. After awhile, I forget that it’s even there.

I guess the only reason I still try other products out there is because this one isn’t perfect (does that even exist?). I have some serious bags under my eyes and I don’t want to wear full foundation, so it can be tricky finding the best undereye concealer without having to do a full face.

Best undereye concealer?

I’ve tried a lot (and reviewed a lot) of different undereye concealers for dark bags. But so far, what is the best concealer for dark eyes? Does the perfect concealer exist?

Best thick coverage – Bye Bye Under Eyes Concealer by IT Cosmetics

Bye Bye Under Eyes is really thick and has insane coverage. This concealer doesn’t look fantastic on it’s own, however, so you’ll probably need to finish with proper foundation and setting powder. A bit too much makeup for me.

However, it certainly does what it says on the tin, just needs a bit more support to fully blend it into your eyes and face without looking obvious.

Best solo concealer – Maybelline Instant Age Rewind

Similar to Youth FX, Instant Age Rewind is easy to use, has good coverage and is a solid product. I think I like this one the best for my dark bags. Plus you can certainly use this one without any additional makeup, foundation or setting powder. It’s really easy to apply with the spongey-end and you’re all set!

And

Youth FX Fill + Blur Concealer – Youth FX is a solid concealer for under eyes. Not perfect, but certainly cheap and accessible. You also don’t need foundation to cover this one appropriately, so it’s almost on-par with Instant Age Rewind. However, I think this one cakes slightly more than Maybelline.

Worst concealer – Dark Circle Concealer by NYX

Didn’t like this one at all, really cakey and poor coverage. I’m sure it would be fine if you have really minimal underage bags, but I don’t! Simply not effective enough for me to use.

Final verdict on Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer

No matter what concealer I try and leave Maybelline behind, I always end up coming back. I guess that says how well this one works. It’s not perfect for me, but it always does its job, even when I try out more expensive concealers instead.

Instant Age Rewind is affordable, accessible and easy to use. It’s certainly effective, although it won’t completely cover my under eyes unless I layer it and use foundation (which I won’t). Overall a solid product that I always come back to!
